..Lethe, the Cryosamurai:
......Pit, pit, pit. The soft patter of a steady rain filled the ears of a young village soldier, the skies greying as a storm system bared down upon the region. Deep within the forest like this rain storms usually don't amount to much more than a temperature drop. The ground is often thirsty enough to soak up whatever rain water comes down and the high canopy and thick branches and leaves protects the village from too heavy of an aquatic assault.

......This young village soldier, the samurai known as Lethe, enjoyed the smell of wet dirt when the rain came. It was a nice shake up from the usual smell of sun baked grass, tamed animals, and maize. In fact, he thought himself to be lucky to have been able to have patrol during the time of a storm. As the rainfall began to come down harder, the young warrior continued his patrol around the perimeter of the forest. It had, and would, prove to be an uneventful day as far as criminals and defense went, but he supposed being in attendance of such a naturally beautiful event was well worth the boredom.

......It was either exciting or boring, never anything in between. That was a soldier's life.

......It's just too bad this day was the latter.

..Lethe, the Cryosamurai:
......His claymore had quickly become a tool of the trade over the past few days, proving it's usefulness without question. It would prove to be one of the wisest investments Lethe had ever made in his relatively short life. While it was true that he'd been trained in the ways of a samurai the majority of his life, he found wielding a larger weapon such as a claymore fit his abilities much better. In comparison with his other soldier and village of the moon brethren, he was very tall and broad, and the sword itself he'd used his entire life, a katana, was small compared to him.

......The claymore, on the other hand, fit him quite nicely. In fact, just this morning he'd split the skulls of several beasts using the massive weapon. The beats, a form of rabid wolf, had sprang an attack on villagers in the farmlands. A short trek , a few powerful swings, and spilled blood later resulted in one of many outstanding performances for Lethe's new claymore. As a soldier he decided from this point on he'd be a unique facet in the village's force, wielding a claymore full time instead of a katana.

......Perhaps in the future he should name it!

..Lethe, the Cryosamurai:
......Even though this day had started like any other day, it was anything but. Today, after nearly 10 years living with the Village of the Moon, Lethe was upon his final day as a soldier here. It would be ironic that his final days were nothing but meager tasks. Not like he expected a going away part or anything.

All throughout his adopted life within the village he'd been bred and taught in the ways of these people, and through it all he had at one time felt connected to them. He had felt as if he was one of them; a son of the Moon. But with any facade, as time went on it began to fade. He'd performed well for the village, becoming one of the best soldiers in the entire organization, even recently having had a promotion. But, not even that could sate him.

Lethe had finally come to realize he had nothing in common with these people. That wasn't it, though. It wasn't the real reason he had to leave. The real reason he had to leave was his new life debt. He could no longer hold allegiance to the village over anyone else, and he had told himself long ago that when that day came he would leave. Sure enough it came. Additonally, after what he'd experienced with Teotl deep within the forests, he knew that there was more to this world than this village. He would always wish these people well, but he had to move on.

His resignation was quick and to the point, and he'd already had all of his stuff from his hut packed on to his horse. Lethe, along with the remnants of the true Order of the Moon, left the village to set out for new lands. Their target: the combative Nogatii people in the northeast.

..Lethe, the Cryosamurai:
......A lot of things had changed over the past couple of days. Lethe had gone from being a simple soldier to a leader of a group of men in a short span, and had not only taken leadership from them but had resigned as a member of the village of the moon (and a soldier in it's guard), and had taken his men into the wilderness. Their goal was to make their own set up; to find their own home to become soldiers at. The target was a group of natives that had been described to him by an old sage known as Gilleg, who he'd met in the northern forests when he'd been discovering the demon that was terrorizing the land.

Long story short Lethe and his men found them, took control of their village and their people, and were now sitting pretty as the leaders of an entire village. That wasn't without trial, though, as ones that have just inherited - or taken - such a thing were met with issues. Mostly the delegation of power and responsibility, which was a central job of Lethe as captain. But, he met the challenge head on, and with success and without issue.

Under normal circumstances being a captain would have been hard enough, but when you threw in the responsibilities of a village chief; well, things got a little bit tougher. That wasn't to say that any of it wasn't something that Lethe could handle, quite the contrary in fact. He'd worked his entire life to get to this point, and he was to be damned if he left it slip away by not performing up to expectation.

The week had began well enough, with expanding the Nogatii borders eastward towards the seas, setting up a formidable outpost a few miles outside of the village. The construction had gone well enough and the initial patrols had performed well, but there seemed to be an argument now about the scheduling. It certainly wasn't something he expected to do as a captain ... after all, such things were supposed to be left to the lower members of the brigade. Unfortunately his numbers were thin to the point of him having a necessity to perform extra tasks. It wouldn't be overly hard, and would simply constitute reformatting the shift schedule in the tower and ensuring that they all have very specific tasks to perform while doing so. Boredom was a killer, after all.

So, on this day he took a step back and reorganized the patrol shifts for the entire brigade and set upon specific orders in the name of functionality. Not exactly heroic work, but important nonetheless.

If there was one thing the young captain had not yet become all that well acquainted with, it was diplomacy. For someone that was in a new leadership position, diplomacy would prove to be one of the most challenging aspects of the job. Lethe's ultimate goal in all of this - taking over the Nogatii people and steadily increasing their land - was the establishment of a new age empire. In the time since the radiant dawn, the majority of people in the world were fractures into small groups. Unless you counted the Mare organization near the coast, and places like his old village, there really weren't a whole lot of dense population areas.

That is why Lethe tasked his soliders on this day with seeking out the nearby peoples. They weren't all Nogatii, though some were, and some were old enemies. But none of that mattered now, and Lethe was prepared to offer them full immunity and citizenship in the Nogatii tribes. Should they accept they'd be welcomed with open arms, but should they decline they'd simply take their land and aggressively expand.

And such were the orders he gave, wondering which of the two outcomes he'd hear about. He didn't want to forcefully take their things, but it was for their own good .. at least in his mind.

So it would appear that the surrounding villages weren't so content on merely falling under the banner of the Nogatii. Lethe, the captain of the Moon brigade and leader of the Nogatii people, had sent his soldiers to the surrounding areas to seek the admittance of local peoples into the village. Considering his goal was unification and a powerful city state, that would be paramount. Unfortunately all of the people declined. Apparently the bad blood the existed between the peoples and his new clan in the past was too far to overcome, as well as their will to be independent. No matter, he could conquer them soon enough.

There was more business to handle back home, though. This was in regards to the people of the village and their need for supplies. Food was an important thing to a growing people, and Lethe sought to secure that ground by expanding and preparing for said expansion. The expansion would call for several miles of land to the east of the village to be transformed into farmland, where the people would farm food for the village to ensure an adequate supplies as well as a good source of trade items. With it being such an important task, Lethe himself oversaw the project personally.

Land, land, and more land. Over the past few days Lethe and a small band of his own men had traveled throughout the southern regions of the northern forests (confusing, I know). Along with Iskra that had gone through and claimed over thirty miles of land in the name of the Nogatii Tribes and Iskra. Along the way they'd met resistance, as well as a few odd encounters, but it had been overall smooth.

Having finished such a trek, Lethe and his men were to return to the homelands. Reports from Remus indicated that the training of new recruits had been an amazing success. In their absence, the numbers of the Nogatii forces had swollen from just about a dozen to over three dozen. Over forty soldiers, two officers, and himself. It was a great day to be leader of the Nogatii, to be sure, and he had full intention of seeing all of the new members of his order as soon as he returned.

But, now was that hard part: getting home. They'd left the village where they'd met Rain, separated from Iskra for the time being, and were navigating through the forests. Unfortunately, the forest wasn't always the safest place.

The birds chirped, the swallows cried out, and another wide assortment of somewhat friendly forest animals made their presence known with their signature calls. Lethe and his group of men were on their way back to Dagan from a campaign in the forests farther south, and they had hoped it'd be an uneventful trip. Unfortunately another denizen of the forest made their presence known with a signature ... an odor.

Yes, the bandits of the region would often go days and weeks without bathing. This proved a disadvantage for them whenever they were trying to ambush people, as the heavy stench that reminded someone of a sweaty bare foot baking in the summer sun was a good indicator of those around you. Being professional soldiers and the leader of an entire clan of warmongering people, such nuisances never proved to be much a problem and this time was no different.

They were attacked midway through a thick underbrush, and several minutes later Lethe and his men found themselves unscathed while four carcasses were strewn about the area. Death always did have a pungent smell that Lethe wasn't too fond of, so they made sure to leave the area quickly upon dispatching the men. Why couldn't walks in the woods actually be nice for once?

It was only a little over a days worth of a trip for Lethe and his small contingent of men to reach the northern village of Dagan. In more ways than one it was good to be home, and seeing the fertile farmlands on the outskirts of the village was rather warming for the young chieftain. The sun was high in the clear blue sky, casting it's bright rays on the surrounding landscape. Dagan had been built in a wide clearing which spanned several miles while the forest surrounded it as a natural barrier.

Upon entering the village Lethe's men dispersed, going along their way to see their families and get some much needed rest and relaxtion. Lethe on the other hand made his way to the chieftain's hut where he was greeted by the second in command on his forces, the beautiful but dangerous Remus. It turns out it was an eventful time here while he was gone, as the fame brought in by defeating the dragon and their conquests caused their numbers to soar. According to her report, they now had thirty more troops than he had had when he'd left.

Seems like he needed to go on campaigns more often.

Any leader should know that one of the most important things to an army is the moral. This didn't merely extend to the foot soldiers, but all the way up the chain of command. That's why he wasn't sure anyone could fault him when he took a break from the stark duties of chieftain and enjoyed pleasures of the skin with those under him - in this case both metaphorically and literally. Remus, the second in command of the Nogatii tribes and skilled tactician and warrior, often found herself on the receiving end of these so-called breaks. Or in this case underneath Lethe. Not that she ever complained (in fact half the time she was the one that instigated it all) ... or rather, the only thing Lethe ever heard from her during these times were pleasurable moans and deep growls.

It was a nice stress reliever all things considered. He'd never really realized back in his time as a mere foot soldier the type of pressure and expectations that were placed upon a leader. It was always an afterthought in his mind, always behind the visions of glory and grandeur he was sure he was going to get. He never considered the price it carried, but he was now finding out.

Then again, with stress relievers like this maybe getting stressed wasn't such a bad thing. In fact, maybe he should get stressed more often.

The daily tasks of a general was, in many senses of the word, a grind. Today for example Lethe began his day by delegating responsibilities between his men and the leadership. Romulus and Remus seemed particularly abrasive to their tasks - such was the case in people that received seats of power, as was their case.

Having completed those daily tasks, Lethe's mind fell upon another issue that was troubling him: his recent confrontation with Iskra. Lethe never was the type to be okay with unresolved conflict, and he found himself concerned that this recent rift may send her towards her demon follower. This was of concern because of the inescapable link that his tribe, his people, and his very life had with Iskra. He couldn't allow her to go down such a path, and he was going to do everything within his power to prevent that from happening.

But, there wasn't an unlimited amount of time to dwell upon it. He had to move on, and prove himself useful.

Rolling out a map of the surrounding area, Lethe began to plot his army's next movements.
