Research Notes 02,: Black Magic, Blood Magic

What is it that makes Kami and Oni different from the regular spirits the wander around the realms of Terra? After about two years wandering I came to the conclusion that there was something in the blood, something in the essence of each of them that made them different. For me, my [tainted sense]s could pick that very thing up that made Oni different. Something that seemed to be in their blood that I could feel. I could tell they were there. For Oni, there is a taint in their blood, a tint that can only be described as that very thing that makes them what they are. Evil. Mischievous. Self absorbed. Self interested. Survivors. To Kami there is something else. Something I’d probably describe as an innocence. This makes them brighter. They work together to achieve things instead of being soul survivors. IN my time, brief time in the Celestial realm I learned just what the fruits of such team work could be. The building of an amazing and beautiful realm in comparison to the burned charred wasteland of the underworld. But for this more beautiful background. Was scenery truely worth the weakness that Kami have inherent from their lack of brutal environment? Despite preferring the weather and conditions of Terra to the underworld I cannot say that I would trade thus, the taint in my blood, and that warzone gave me the strength I required to survive things. And gave me the strength to overwalm all opposition before me.

Its when I first discovered the power of this taint that I began my interest in blood magic and its effects. Blood magic is of course just another version of dark magic. This one focusing on life as opposed to the shadowy verses of destruction. Whilst blood magic is indeed an offensive destructive magic. Its powers are fuelled not just by the udders natural supplies of mental will and magical energy. But its also subsideised by their life force as well. Blood magic in its most basic form goes back a long long way. Right back to the dawn, even humans. Foolishly sacrificing animals or even each other to gods that may or may not exist. Were practicing albeit. Clumsy blood magic. Blood magic takes life as the source fuel for its magic much in the same way necromancy makes use of the entropic energies of death. Taking it in to build upon the already powerful foundations for magic. It does not actually create the magic itself. That is. The blood. The spilling of the blood takes the life energy of a person and converts it into dark energy. This dark energy in turn adds to the magical energy of the attack creating its power and turning it in on itself. Multiplying the strength of the spell. Of course, this is only the most basic principle of blood magic. One of the first secrets of the art that must be unlocked before it can be used to any efficiency. The idea of sacrificing your own, or indeed. Others life blood in order to fuel magic can be off-putting to some. As well as the obvious pain that is involved in drawing the blood required to do so. Such requires great fortitude on behalf of the user.

As of such. Humans are rarely fond among the ranks of those who practice this particular school of the dark arts. And those who are tend to stick to sacrificing the blood of others in order to fuel their magic as opposed to letting their own life flow. Humans tend to have limited blood at their disposal.. This combined with their short life span and fear of their impending doom tends to put humans off doing thusly. Of course, this in itself combined with the lack of natural taint in their blood cripples them. As of such. The only true effective users of blood magic tend to be among demon kind. The natural taint within our blood helping in the production of dark energy. Creating larger amounts of power for considerably less life force. This isn’t to say however that blood magic is excessively popular among demons either. To be honest even demons consider the art rather taboo. Which is saying something. They view practitioners of such arts as outcasts. Devouring the flesh of a kill is good. But keeping them alive and milking them for their blood? That is apparently abhorrent. Regardless. Those who limit themselves based on taboo. Are the weak ones. Ones who will likely not survive much longer in this world. To survive th underworld. And ultimately dominate it. One cannot limit their own sources of strength.

Once a person has practiced enough of the art of supplementing their own magic with the power of blood the can move onot the next level of blood magic. Haeomoancy. The control of blood. Both ones own. And the blood of others. This advancement in blood magic can only be made once one understands the nature of blood use in magic. For myself. Reaching this level was relatively easy among my fellow demons. Being able to sense the taint in their veins all I had to do was focus my magical energies on that taint and take hold of it. Humans and Kami however presented more of an issue. And thus required more practice. In terms of power. Against opponents whilst this magic is rarely capable of wide mass spread destruction as opposed to the supplementation method. It is however efficient and deadly without causing mass devastation in the environment. For the most part, the blood magic’s I have discovered within the Haemomancy power tend to cover tearing the blood from the veins and arteries of the opponent. Or even turning their own bodies defences inwards against them. The last stage of blood magic however I have reached involved my experimentation with the spirit entity that causes vampirisim in humans once they are possessed. This vampirism causes the infected human to develop a craving for blood. But making them at the same time. Virtually indestructible. By studying this spirit. I have unlocked some of its secrets....
