As the changes began to occur in the first subject, he rushed over to grab his first research journal containing the pages he had already wrote on his research concerning blood magic. The research on the lore of demons was lying around elsewhere on another desk. Regardless at the moment all he was interested in was taking notes of the changes as they happened. Grabbing quill and ink pot and beginning to write away. “ New changes occurring within test subject one, few hours after sensory changes odd rash began to appear on skin. Subject appeared to be uncomfortable, not in pain but rather as if she wanted to scratch this itch and due to the magic bind I put on her could not. This seemed to be some cause of irritation Hours later this rash caused skin to flake, below revealing a harder stronger hide, not quite scale, not quite skin but something in between. Tougher than skin but not as rough as scale. The jerks and cries of th subject are getting more desperate, more feral and more beast like. It would appear I was correct in my assumption. Dental status also changing, teeth of subject falling out, being replaced by several rows of fangs. Jaw bone configuration is warping, making mouth wider to fit these teeth. Process appears to be becoming painful”.

By the time the teeth had begun to come in, the cries of his subject could be heard throughout the forest. Changes slowed and eventually, stopped. It wasn’t quite as dramatic a change as he expected but somehow that made it all a little bit more monstrous than one would usually expect. So, deciding he had learned all he could with this. He drained her of her blood. Killing her. It would likely come in handy for the next subject.

Study of the subjects blood revealed rather interesting changes to its make up and chemistry. There as some draconian elements to it that he’d felt before in the dragons blood. But there was also a heavy amount of human in there too. He had no idea why though. Surely the blood of the mystic creature would have been stronger than the blood of the human. Or was it amount over power? He had made the dragon blood act symbiotically with the human. Fusing it together to create a brand new being and yet this being had retained far too many human traits to be called useful. Far too much humanity in these creatures. And humanity bar its base elements was of no use. He wondered if there was a way to dilute that humanity further without compromising too much of the dragons blood he had collected. Already cogs were turning in his mind about just what he’d be doing with that, but first these experiments were required. First he had to ensure that everything was ...safe. So a way to reduce the humanity in a creature. There was only really one way he could think of, Jack looked to his side at a knife lying upon the cold stone table. Introduce the taint present in demonic blood. Into the blood of the dragon hybrids.

The demonic taint could have a multitude of effects upon any hybrid created. It would reduce humanity within the resulting creature certainly, and would give him more of an idea about how the dragon blood would react with the taint. SO picking up the knife, Jack held his hand over a bowl. And cut. Squeezing his own blood into it. A new way of putting life blood into his research. Calming wrapping the scratch in cloth. He looked up and one of his other subject. And let out a toothy grin.

Jacks most basic power had uncovered the first of his research into blood magic. The ability to sense the taint within others of his own kind. His discover of this taint, brought him to the conclusion that this was the thing that made Oni different from all other creatures. Concluding that also, Kami must have something similar in their own blood. A light of sorts that made them what they were. This taint within the blood of the Oni. This inherent...evil. Was what made Oni capable of doing horrible deeds without remorse or care. Not only that but actually driving them to do such things. Jack knew that there was only one way to dehumanise any of the subjects in his research when they were in the process of dragon hybridisation under the effects of the dragon blood. But there was a bit of a road block. Jack had been using some of his own blood in preliminary experiments. Checking just how the effects of the human blood and dragon blood combination would deal with the introduction of the taint into the whole equation and truthfully results wern’t as he had hoped but were as he had suspected. Indeed his own blood had in effect dehumanised the human part of the blood. But it had also de-dragonised the dragon part as well. Overall the taint seemed to be rapidly overtaking everything in its path, turning human to oni.. Turning dragon. To oni. An odd whispering in his mind. “ Hunger”. As he stood there his magic holding the blood in the air watching as the demonic taint spread, feeling its movements throughout the combined blood. That whispering it was right. Hunger seemed to be the drive of the taint. To consume everything. This led to horribly disturbing thoughts about the nature of gluttons. One of the reasons he was carrying out this research in the first place was to make sure that he and his forces were strong enough to defeat the glutton and the hunger.

“ What if its inevitable though...”. He thought to himself. What if all demons were in the end. Driven to hunger. Disturbing indeed.

Regardless of what the true nature of the taint was it wasn’t the issue he was tring to solve at least not yet. For now came the issue of how to use the taint to dehumanise the blood of a human but leave the dragon blood untouched. Think think think. It was at that point that his mind was dragged back to an earlier point in time. The stroll in the forest with Iskra discussing the properties of Kami as mothers. Kami.. In their own way the Kami light dehumanised things just as much as the demonic taint. But the only difference being that from what he had seen humans were not bothered too much by the effects of the blessing powers of Kami. So did that mean that if he used Kami blood as opposed to his own demonic taint he would have better results? He thought to himself. As much as he disliked the idea of creating some sort of celestial hybrid dragon. This was an avenue he could explore as far as such a thing went. The only issue however was actually obtaining the blood of a kami. Finding them in the human realm wasn’t precisely the most easy thing in the world to do. “ Or is it?”. A voice from behind him humming away. As he turned he faced Ceila, the leader of what had once been the clan of madness in the underworld. One who had sworn fealty to him. If one didn’t know better then they would easily mistake her for a kami. Light skin, blonde hair and the innocent look that would melt the heart of even the most grizzled of warriors. Luckily Jack was no human warrior and knew all too well of just what Ceilas true nature was. She was a creature of darkness, and of madness. One that used her innocent looks in her manipulation and little games of mortal and immortal chess. It seemed that once again her little mind reading trick was at work. Jack stood there , blood dried on his clothes and she looked at him with a cheeky little grin up and down. “ Man that look suits you Jackie boy”. Jack couldn’t really argue there. There was nothing that said horrors of the demonic plain like dried in and encrusted human blood. The only issue was actually washing it out for formal purposes.

“ Nice to see you as well”> Jack commented in a rather half hearted expression. The last time he had seen the leader of madness was after their fight at the court of madness, deciding what they would do with it as far as what happened after they had defeated the glutton went. Ceila wanted to keep the building standing, using it to create more demons of madness to rebuild her clan piece by piece. But the buildings ability to turn demons into demons of madness was far too Dangerous to be allowed to remain. After all, if she had the ability to do such, the numbers of madness could consume the entire plains of hell. They could have ended up being more of a threat than the glutton. But, he had won the fight and Ceila had at least preliminarily agreed to the destruction Of the court of madness. But in all honesty he expected her to betray him once they had dealt with the more immediate threat of the gliutton then again it was always Ceila’s nature to be by chance unpredictable. She had always originally been out to find out jsut what hadoccured before the dawn. Beliving as they do that something had been there before. And that she had been someone before the cleansing flames and destruction that seemed to be so obvious had came. Wiping out everything that had been, along with all memories. Jack himself was curious as to what had ocured. It was one of the reasons he studied the beliefs and lore of demons as well as his own magic’s. Both were invariably linked together.

Jack however was a creature of the here and now, what happened in the past didn’t really effect much of what was to happen now. At least the past before the dawn. Jack was always constantly watching his back for other things that had occurred after the dawn. Like blow back from his destruction of desire. Or indeed any offspring he may have accidently created during his time among the humans. Particularly the latter. “ So, I assume since you are all too good at picking into my thoughts that you know just where to find what I need”. She let out a brief and courteous nod before letting out another one of those shit eating grins, THE BITCH. “ Yup, You can generally find Kami hanging around Mare Maris, or even over at Iskra’s village”. For a moment he stopped and looked at her direly. “ What do you mean Kami at Iskra’s village?”. She shifted from foot to foot and then rolled her eyes. “ Her little friend silly, the one thats possessed, he had kami blood running through him whether he likes it or not. Take his blood, works just as well”.

It only occurred to Jack that she was talking about Lethe as she mentioned the person that was with her. The possessed one. Yes, he would have blessed blood running through his veins due to the shared consciousness of the kami. Yes indeed this was an idea however, that particular one he didn’t think would give up blood willingly. Unless of course well. Iskra asked him to. This was always an option and arguably the mixed blood would actually work out better as it was already pre fused with the blood of a kami. It was an interesting possibility but ultimately not one he thought he would persue. At least not for the moment. Asking of Iskra something like the blood of one of her followers well it seemed to him that perhaps he’d be pushing the boat outa little too much on their relationship. Regardless of the covenant they had made. There seemed to be too much a bond between Iskra and her humans. He did not like this. But ultimately there was nothing that he could do as far as that went. “ Hm true, but unfortunately certain things prevent me from taking that route. Hm, I suppose the kami enhabitants of mare maris will be receiving a visitor then”. Ceila looked up at him, curious eyes, probably wondering just why he was hesitant to bother with Lethe’s blood.

In truth this was another example of the weakness he had warned himself against. He disliked it but it was true. He was going out of his way to make things easier on his relationship with the matriarch. Their relationship was, Beneficial. And he didn’t want to risk those benefits by doing such a thing. Besides. Whilst he was in Mare Maris he could collect plenty of pure Kami blood. Perhaps he could find a way to better defend himself against their kind from experiments on it. “ Walk with me”. He began to head towards the exit, instructing the guards of sloth to keep an eye on his test subjects and to make sure they were taken care of. At least enough to still be in a relatively healthy state when he got back. He still needed to perform more experiments on them after all. And he couldn’t help but think chances of success were far greater if he had a healthy subject as opposed to a starving diseased one. “ I assume things are going alright in the seat of pride?”. Ceila bounced as she walked nodding “ Yup its very comfortable, I need to get myself one of those seats”. She grinned knowing that one of Jacks specific rules was that no one sit on that seat bar him. “ Only kidding ya Jackie boy no need to get all sour pussed”. . Jack grumbled and then began to walk ahead. “ I’ll be returning soon to see Jonah, just make sure things don’t fall apart in the meantime”. Ceila just jumped up and down as he walked away. Even now she acted like a child. Even if her brain was plotting something terrible. But then again. She was just like Jack in that sense.
