Lethe and his band followed closely behind Iskra. Ever since they'd left that makeshift village with the strange star in the middle of it, his men had been mumbling about a missed opportunity. Apparently they had been itching for a fight up to this point and were quite disappointed that they'd been unable to participate in one. They never directly voiced their concerns to their leader, instead keeping to themselves and mumbling about in their strange dialect of the land's native tongue.
This was one disadvantage of having taken over a group of warring tribes: their warriors were always wanting to fight. It was a source of pride and honor for them (and fun, even though they'd never directly admit it) and they were always seeking to prove their worth. Lethe found himself hoping they'd come across something worth fighting in the near future ... truth be told he wouldn't mind taking someone out either. Not in the bloodthirsty way, but in the 'bandits make good sword fodder' way.
As they walked Iskra had been etching symbols into trees. Since she was originally a hyena and a demon, such methods probably seemed effective enough for her. Lethe had a slightly more sophisticated way to mark the land, one he had made in preparation of the trip. Every half mile or so one of his archers would plant a metal "T" spike in the ground which was about five feet tall. Draping down from the top was a woven banner with the sprawling sun symbol Iskra had been etching into trees. They were colorful, using gold and indigo, and had been painstakingly created the night before by all five of his men (being tribal people of the woodlands, they had grown very good at such things).
"Any idea of places out this way?" Lethe asked Iskra as he calmly looked back to ensure that his men had put down the second spike in this one mile area .
