First Blood

" I'll never forget my return to the barracks. Everyone was silent. Like I was dead. Which I suppose I was. Wasn't that the whole point? My armour. My items. All taken away from me. That was the next part of the training after all. The induction only the begining. A remnant was a corpse. A corpse wasn't buried with things on its body. A Remnant had to provide his or her own equipment from what they were paid. And so, after saying my goodbyes to those at the old barracks. I reported to the Remnant Barracks. Was shown whre I would be sleeping. As expected it was a communal dorm. Empty for that moment. Afterwards I was given my pay and told to go out and spend it as I wished. However. I wasn't going to be provided with a weapon by standard. So. I knew any challneges ahead. If I spent frivoulously I would be doing so unarmed. So. I decided to head straight to the bazaar. To buy my first sword in my new life".

The bazaar was bustling as was normal. At this stage he had no armour, thankfully however Belmont had been provided with a uniform that bore the black bird insignea of the Remnants. Heading towards the nearest sword dealer he began to pick out his new weapon. There were many beautiful blades on display. However Belmont knew that these things were only for show. The true quality of a blade was determined by just how well it did its job; Thats why he went for the base standard long sword. A typical weapon used by the knights and soldiers in the army. It was more or less just like his old one before he had signed up as a remnant. And thus. Would be perfect for his training.

" Unfortunately base economic climates and such a basic soldiers wage for a week was never enough to cover a weapons value. It was a disappointing thing to see that the merchant wasn't going for things. Perhpas it was jus tthe fact I wasn't used to dealing with these types. Or perhaps he just liked to exploit those that protected them. Regardless. The sword was out of my reach. At least for now. But it wasn't that much of a disappointment. Perhaps I should find more work to do before training started. Maybe that too was one of the tests I'd have to overcome. ".

It was a disappointment. A bitter taste in his moouth as Belmont pulled away the items before and moved to leave the area of the Baazar. Damned merchants didn't know what was good for them. Yet. He would keep his head down on that one and return later, perhaps with more to be paid for. This city had plenty of work to be done. Particularly for a man of his talents. And whilst he would like to jump into training very quickly. Doing so unprepared was asking for his death on a silver platter. So he headed out towards the centre of town.
