. The Search . With a deep breath, the young man inhaled the millions of scents from the bazaar. There were spices from far off lands, food from all over the world and animals so rare that one would be lucky to even see it before one died of old age. Among all of these things, a young man walked, his body covered or maybe concealed by a dark blue hooded cape, his hands holding a book, a very old book in fact. Its writing were runic for the untrained eye and its bindings, if one could even call it that were loose and barely held the massive book together. Slowly walking his way through the bazaar, he would occasionally stop to have a look at the many things one could buy. Weapons, food of all sorts, clothing, animals, people, statues and metal works – this place had it all. However, nothing of this seemed to catch his eye, that is, until he reached the center of the bazaar. Here there were stands selling scrolls, books, stone tablets; everything a studier would need for his research and more.
Slowly he would move over to the closest stand which was selling books, which the owner was very happy to announce every five seconds with a loud chant. “Books, thousands of books! Magic, tales and stories! Mambar has it all!” he was shouting from his little podium. Reaching the many shelves of books, the man we have been following removed his hood to reveal an almost grey bluish face, marked with a long scar on its left side and littered with red and silvery tattoos. His hands, having long black nails began to trace the books, his voice rasping through the air as she spoke out the titles. His mystical appearance drew the attention from a small crowd already inside the store, among them a small girl. The girl, seemingly in the following of her mother and a small female group; looking like nobles, would stand and stare at the man dressed in dark blue from top to toe, despite her mother’s encouragement to not stare.
Standing in the particular part of the store that dealt with magic and history, the man would be minding his own business until he was approached by one of the females of the group that was already present upon his entry of the stand. “Excuse me” she said in a raised voice, apparently wanting his attention. Continuing his search for a specific book, the woman took a step closer and tried again. “Peasant! When you are addressed by a noble, it is your duty to bow and answer!” she almost growled at him. Stopping his finger at a large black cased book, he would reach up and pull it out of its place on the shelf before turning to the woman, but this time pulling his shoulders back and straightening his body. From having a stature of almost 5’5” he suddenly rose to a stature of 7 feet and 7 inches, towering over the noble woman which now, clearly intimidated by this man’s size, but also his scared and tattooed face.
In a cold and almost unpleasant voice the man would look down at the small group, which by now had got together in a small lump. “Be careful my lady, because when talking to a stranger, you do not know who he is, where he is from or his profession” bowing his head, he would walk to another shelf and continue his search for a second book, but before even reaching the shelf he was stopped by the woman. “How dare you talk to a noble like that? Y-You are just a peasant, a lousy beggar! Just wait till my husband hears about this, he will have you jailed for your disobedience.” She was screaming, obviously intimidated by this person which had just confronted her. Her screaming had gathered a small crowd, which all had their eyes on the towering man which was simply ignoring the woman and her threats, that is, until she threw a book at him. “Get out of here! Or I will call the guards!” she yelled.

. The Search . The book would hit him, not enough to do physical harm, but enough to make him turn around. However, this time there was something different about him, his eyes – they were glowing in a faint reddish hue. The woman, uncertain how to react took a defensive step backwards towards the cluster of other nobles which had bundled together in fear of this tall and dark man. From his mouth, a short chant of a foreign language could be heard. Suddenly after the man was done talking, the woman which had previously assaulted him by throwing a book began to wobble before falling to her knees and holding her chest. The effect would be immediate and soon she would be having difficulties breathing without it hurting and whenever she would try to get up on her feet, she would collapse back down to the ground, as if the muscles in her body had gone with the wind. The look on the man’s face had gone back to its normal cold and dark appearance. Taking a step towards the woman that was now lying on the floor, he would let his right hand come out of his long sleeve, showing a hand just as dark as his face, but with many more tattoos in the same colors as his face wore. His hand would reach out towards the woman, gently taking a hold upon her shoulder as she crouched down next to her. Slowly pushing her up into a sitting position against a table, he would look at her which his cold chrome black eyes. “Nobles are humans, just like the peasants, both bleeds when stabbed” he said as his right index finger would trace her cheek, making a tiny cut as it slid over, making a single drop of blood form at the end. “See, you are just as red on the inside, as the peasants you disgust” he would say before rising back to his feet, looking over at the small bundle of women, sobbing their eyes out at their collapsed friend. “Now, I suggest that you should get out of here” he would say to them as he gazed upon them, knowing that they now feared him more, than anything else. Grabbing their friend on the floor, the quickly got out of the store, shouting and screaming as they plowed their way through the crowd. Sighing to himself, he would turn back to the shelf he was read through and continued, only to be left to his own for maybe a minute before a light hand tapped him in the back. Exhaling in an annoyed fashion, he would turn and was suspecting to see maybe a guard or two or maybe some worker, but to his surprise it was the little girl which had been with the noble only a few minutes prior.
Looking down at the kid, which he reckoned was no older than six, was clutching a massive book with white leather casing, her eyes wide – not in fear or anger, but more like admiration or hope of some kind. “Read?” she would say in the typical young female voice as she reached the book she was holding up towards him. The book, being considerably huge and heavy was making the girls arms shiver as the seconds went by. “R-Read?” she would say again, this time there was signs of struggle in her voice, which probably came from the heavy book she was holding. Cocking his eyebrows upwards, he would grab the book with his left hand and the girl with his right, placing both of them on the table that was standing in the corner. “You want to read this?” he said as he pointed to the book while opening it.

. The Search . It did not take long for him to notice what the little girl wanted him to read, problem was, that he himself was unable to read it as it was from an age unknown to those that lived, at least for the young ones that had no memory of past events and happening. Quickly flicking through a couple of the pages, taking in the language he had some many times encountered, but still could not understand, he decided to confer to the little girl which was sitting in complete silence, looking at the book. “I’m sorry girl, but I can’t read this; as a matter of fact, few can” with that he would close the book and leave at the table. “Why not?” the girl would ask as she looked up at him, now with more of a questioning look on her face. “Because it’s a language that I have no knowledge about, all I know is that it was a long time ago that the world was different; when you grow older and go to the mainland you will see it yourself. Massive structures, so massive that they dwarf even the mightiest of buildings we can build now” he would explain as he withdrew his own little book from his bag. “Now, this is a book which you will have more use for” Opening the book it had a picture of different elements, all in a circle with explanations on the side to explain what each element was. “This is magic, its everywhere around you, and some people can in fact control it and bend it to their will.” With a new vigour in her eyes she quickly snapped the book from his hands and began studying the pictures. “if you know what you are doing, you could even make night turn to day and make the dead become alive” he explained further as he flicked open a page which had a blackish green edge around it and on top it said in almost runic letter ‘Soul Reaping’.

. The Search . The girl, at this stage, so entranced in the book and the word magic, just stared at the book, her pupils flicking about over the text and the pictures, her little finger tracing the pictures as she went. Having already memorized the book, the man would turn back to the bookshelf and resume his search for one specific book, which, not after long he found. Its paper and casing so old and dry that even the tiniest mistake would make the entire book crumble to dust. Taking the book carefully out of the shelf and placing it on the table next to the girl, he would slowly and carefully open it, his gaze beginning to read the pages so quickly that it seemed like he simply scanned the page; at the same time as reading the first page, he withdrew a similar sized book from his bag and opened it on the first page, which was blank and to the girls surprise, began to write down the older book word by word into his own. “You know how to write?” he asked the girl as she now changed her attention from the book to the newly made writing. With a shake of her head he would chuckle to himself before replying to her shake. “Thought you nobles would be literate by your age? How about your parents? Can they write?” he would go on to ask, and the girl, still being silent took a second to think about it before shaking her head again. “Well, that’s unfortunate isn’t it? So, little one, do you have a name?” he would continue, already on page five of the book while he was copying it. It took maybe a minute before the girl would answer in a low voice, almost like it would be a secret between the two of them. “Trixie” she whispered to him. “Well Trixie, I am Deus.” And with that, the girl suddenly felt more at ease, maybe was it because the big man had a name or maybe because he felt less threating with a name to go with his massive figure.

. The Search . Time went on and the light of the early morning turned to the crimson sky of sunset as Deus closed the newly written book while giving the old one a caring stroke as he pushed it back into its place on the shelf. Placing the new book into his pouch he would collect his equipment from the table and take a good look at the now almost deserted bazaar. The little girl had scurried off a few hours earlier with his little book on magic, which for him wasn’t a big deal, though for her parents it would have been. Exiting the stall he had spent almost his entire day in, he decided to go for a walk about the settlement, which in the years had turned out to become the jewel of this era. It didn’t take him long to reach the beaches of the west part of the island and as she he got there the fresh breeze from the sea hit him like a wall. Taking a deep breath, he would exhale in a slow manner before walking a few feet onto the beach, allowing his shoes to slightly dig into the sand as he walked. The sound of nature was exhilarating, same was the silence. Deus had always liked the silent areas over those crowded bazaars, but then again, it was only in the bazaars he could find the knowledge he was seeking in order to gain what he most wanted in life, ever since he was a kid. After having walked for about half an hour, he came to a large stone that was situated just at the forest line and from its top one would be able to have a great view of the sunrise and the sea and beach as well. Finding the place beautiful, Deus would begin to climb the rock and when on top, sit down with his legs crossed and his newly written book, reading it over again, this while also thinking of his goals.

. The Search . Time went by and sunset turned to sunrise while Deus was sitting reading his book. By the time he shut it and looked up, the sun was already past the horizon and rising towards the sky. Closing his eyes for a quick moment to let his head rest of the night of reading, he could hear a form of whispering sounds, almost like someone was whispering to him, only that it came from all directions and was in a language he did not recognize nor understand. Looking around himself, he could not see anyone or hear them for the whispers. Standing up he would look around some more before trying to shake the sound out of his head – which seemed to work. Getting down form the rock, the whispers continued, though this time they were stronger, almost as if he came closer to its source. Finding this sudden occurrence weird but also mystic, Deus began to look around himself, looking for what could potentially be the source. After some rotating and shuffling of sand a thin blackish looking chain appeared at the base of the large rock, with curiosity in his mind, he began to remove the sand around it and eventually remerged from the sand atop the stone with a black pendant with a single darkish green stone in its center in the shape of two triangles connect at the base. Gently removing the sand from this beautiful piece of art, he could hear the whispers in his mind slowly stop before a mysterious voice began to chuckle. “Finally~” the voice chuckled, the voice was like words spread with the wind and when one imagined it, it could be smoke flowing. “You seem like a good host” it would say again. Deus on the other hand was still looking at the pendant, somehow knowing what had just happened to him. “Sooo, Necromancer – you seek knowledge” the voice would come again before fading out.
