The village was smaller and rather quiet as the people milled about their day. A baker called out his wares and the prices for such. The smell of fresh baked bread and delicious melt in your mouth honey cakes filled the air. A horse and farmer were plowing a nearby field surrounded by a white wooden fence. On said fence a small girl sat on a post. She was dressed rather fine in a puffy pink dress. She looked to be about ten, a full human with pretty brown hair done up in pink ribbons that curled down through the twin pigtails. In her hands she held a small white stuffed rabbit. She wore white petticoats, pink garters, white stocking and little polished pink shoes. Her green eyes looked about the village. Across the small street from her, a man leaned against a house.

He had black hair and glasses. His clothing was the finest silk and cut available just as the little girl's. But he wore black pants, a red shirt, and a black coat and tie. In his hands he held a book that he was currently writing in. He stopped to push up his glasses and glance at the little girl. The little girl looked up and smiled a the man. The man shook his head and went back to his book. The little girl began to swing her feet and legs against the fence while watching the crowd. If one was a powerful enough spirit, they could pick up the spirit signature coming from the man. A kami, but not just any Kami. The lord of death himself. Azrael.

The girl smiled to a couple that passed her by and then glanced back to the man across the street. He looked up again and shook his head. Then as he was looking back down to the book, his eyes shot up as he sensed the area. There was a kami present. There was more than one but he blinked as he scanned the crowd. A normal Kami would not cause him to do this, but one of power and rank. Not nearly his own, but still more powerful. His hand went down to the wall beside him as a small void opened up against the wall. Only a Kami would be able to see to his hand reaching in to pull out the handle of a weapon. The Lord of Death was a minion of total Order. Neither good nor evil. Just doing his job, but he had to defend himself against Kami and Oni alike since he was liable to be there to usher the death of anyone.

Maya glanced at him and her mouth opened in a little O. She slid off the fence and attempted to rush across the road towards him. Azrael was in his spirit form at the moment, so the girl had to have abilities to see the Seraphim pulling out his large scythe. His eyes alighted on the little girl as his scythe was completely drawn from the void portal. He braced for a moment as a cart was bearing down on the girl and didn't see the cutie running across the road. If it hit her, her death would be assured. So it appeared to outsider that Azrael was winding up to take another soul.

"Oh yes, sweets are must. Come on lets go find out where they are" She was almost child-like in her joy as she tugged on his hand, that was until he stopped and tugged on her hand. "What's wrong?" Then she heard him speak and slid behind him as if letting him protect her. Sera hoped that this movement would let him feel more in control, more masculine, more dominate. "What's here?" She couldn't feel anything different, most likely due to her vacant memories. Somethings still made her seem so very human. But she frowned as she peeked out from around him. Sera was waiting for the all clear, all sense of wanting sweets gone now that there might be a threat. She released Noah's hand so that he could use it just in case they were attacked. As she peeked out she saw the child run across the street in front of the speeding cart and reached out a hand helpless a cry on her lips. She didn't even notice the man with the scythe in spirit form so focused on the child she was. "Noah" was all she was able to get out in hopes he could save the small girl.

Maya was swept up and carried to the safety and as she realized what had happened. She looked up at the man holding her and smiled prettily. "Hello. Thank you for rescuing you me. You're my hero" She giggled and placed her hands over her mouth. Those green eyes stared up at Noah. She was light, being underweight. What was evident upon this close inspection, was that she malnourished, and there were scars on her wrists. Those green eyes although twinkling with happiness, were hallow and slightly sunken.

Azrael passed through the cart and stopped a few feet away from Noah, his black eyes narrowing as he held his scythe in both hands. The book had disappeared for the moment. "Noah" his voice was firm, a whisper against the spine of normal humans. Icy fingers crept up the spines of most people as they heard that voice, the voice of death whispering in their ears. "Drop the girl." Azrael was never known to be a talker. So his words were always short and to the point. The Seraphim watched Noah, his hands gripping the scythe as if ready to slash the soul from a person. The Lord of death looked angry.

Sera watched in horror as the cart bore down on the child. But just in the nick of time, she saw Noah teleport to her and scoop her out of the way. As Noah teleported out of the way, sera breathed a sigh of relief. Her body almost going limp from that feeling. She ran over to Noah just as Azrael came baring down on them. Him being in spirit form shocked her since they were all using human form. She slid beside noah for protection as the higher order of Kami glared at them a frown forming on his face. Her arms reached out for the child, in case Noah wanted to give the ten year old over to use his hands. If he did give her over to Sera, she would put the child down on two feet and move her behind the two. This way she would have access to her weapons should she need them. Her memory did not pick up this kami as familiar. Her hands would fall to her sides her fingers tensing to draw the swords. Sera frowned at the man with the scythe and shook her head. But this was all if noah had decided to give over the child.

The Lord of Death slashed down with his scythe and opened a portal in the void that he tossed the scythe into with a simple toss. Then he let his feet touch the ground and materialized in the normal world. His hands shoved into his pockets as he glowered at the archangel standing before him. "Why does a mere archangel question the motives or orders of one that is higher than him? Suffice it to say, I want that girl back, before something bad happens." Those black eyes flashed as he looked between the two angels. He implied that something bad would be happening to them or those around him.

The girl in question giggled and began to wiggle out from behind them and stepped in front of Azrael, facing Noah and Sera. She dropped a curtsy and then covered her mouth so that she could giggle again. Dropping those skinny hands, she smiled brightly. "Please excuse Azrael, he's so not a people person. He's my teacher" At this Azrael looked to the side and left out a sigh that might say the child had a big mouth. "He's teaching me magic."

Sera continued to watch them and after Azrael spoke, her eyes were like twin sparkling flames. "How dare you? Doesn't matter if he is lesser than you. It's called civility and manners. Try acquiring some." She was heated about him speaking like that to either one. As the girl snuck out from behind them, she tried to reach for the child and missed. But she stopped after the girl spoke. This was the perfect time for that look of surprise on her delicate face. Like Noah she had seen the scars on the wrists of the girl and had felt how small and skinny she was. "You mean he... teaches you? I am sorry for you child to have such a mannerless teach as this man." but then again Sera did not know yet, that they were speaking with the lord of death himself and with just a though she could be sent to that void where all spirits go when they die. Where the screaming of anguished souls unable to see themselves or others resided. The pit of despair. If she had known she would have been shuddering and watching her tongue and keeping it in her head.

Azrael suffered a moment of perplexity as the girl moved to in front of him. While her back was turned he let out a strained sigh, the air coming out in a puff of a cloud as he raised his black eyes heavenward. "Burning Faith. Child, you are not just suppose to go telling everyone you meet." His slender hand reached out and patted the girl's head for a moment. She turned and looked at him and there seemed to be unspoken communication between the two. Finally the Seraphim's hand reached up and massaged the back of his neck. "If you think that is wise, little one. I will see you tomorrow then." With that the Darkest Angel looked over to the pair and his eyes narrowed. "Before you ask, I will not reveal her or my secrets for obvious reasons. Just understand she is an extraordinary child, Noah. But I bid you good day." With that the Lord of death opened the void again and pulled himself through it to disappear.

The girl looked up to the two of them and rocked back and forth on her heels. "Greetings and Salutations. I'm Maya. Thank you for saving me."

Seraphina blinked for a moment and shook her head. "What just happened here and why did he seem so familiar Noah? Who was he?" The kami didn't understand just what happened there for a moment as she looked to the girl and the disappearing portal and then back to the girl again. She sighed and scratched her head. "Um a pleasure to meet you Maya. My name is Sera" Then she looked at the people around them. They were gathering a crowd. Gently she tugged on Noah's clothing. "Perhaps, we should take this some place private or perhaps you should make your speech now." Yes the crowd was growing including the owner of the speeding cart that had almost gotten the girl killed. He took one look at the pair and took off running towards the center of town. His signature being that of a demon. He slipped into the spiritual side of things and became his demonic form as he charged away, fleeing the seen. This could make one wonder if it was a deliberate attempt on the life of the girl in question. Or if it was just a random thing.

Maya looked about at the crowd and slowly started to make her way through them. Her tiny body getting caught up in the crowd and lost to visual sightings. Until she could be seen, skipping down the street away from them. Her voice could be heard softly on the breeze as she sang a short song as she skipped along. That voice was perfection, it was beautiful and haunting. And that small frame, with the scars around her wrists and everything, continued on towards the outskirts of town. Taking her secrets with her. As got to the end of the road, she looked over to the duo and waved to them, a bright smile upon her face, the wind carrying the message to Noah. "I will leave you to your duty. Good luck. My father did his duty and died for it. Strange how that goes. Mother died as well, but that was three years ago. I wonder if Inanis is a good city to visit" There was mischief in her mental voice floating to him and him alone as she turned back to the horizon and cotninued on her way singing.

No, Sera had not heard that voice, but if she had she would be wondering how the child could do that. And then his words hit her and she stumbled back against the fence. "T-that was death? That was the Lord of Death himself. Noah. You should have warned me. Oh my god, I hope I did not make him angry with me. Oh boy and he's teaching that girl. Why?" So many questions went through her head at the same time that she just blinked and went silent while he did his speech to the mass. The spell she watched him cast and she wondered at why he was doing it this way, when his village was perfect. But then again he was not called the manipulator for nothing. That was exactly what he was doing. He was manipulating them to come to the city. It wouldn't hurt anything. Would it? She watched the two people of the crowd rallying the others. When he was finished, hopefully they would be heading back, so she could talk with him on some of these questions concerning the child. But it could wait until he was done with this. at least it looked like it was working.
